Mary Masten is from Washington state, where her artistic career began. In college she made painting her focus, and after college, while spending a year in Washington D.C, she was drawn to the National Gallery of Art again and again. At the National Gallery and ever since, COLOR captures her attention.

While taking classes from various artists, Mary eventually moved from oils to watercolor to acrylics and developed an appreciation of abstract design.

Mary participated in her first glass class at Monterey Penninsula College in 2005 - and got hooked. “When glass is fired in a kiln, the colors become more brilliant than before. The beautiful glass glistens, shimmers and is totally lovely….Now I work with sheet glass, but also with frit (small pieces of glass) and the powders. I’ve created fused pieces and casting with glass, using molds…Looking at these beautiful colors stokes my soul!”
