“I see these daily natural wonders—it could be a tree, river, rock, landscape or coastine—and I feel that beauty lives somewhere in me. I paint to find, express, and give form to that shared planetary existence.”
Rolf Lygren, a resident of Carmel Valley, is an experienced watercolorist, but also paints with oils and acrylics. Rolf has a passion for the plein air approach, but enjoys studio painting too, and describes his style as painterly and impressionistic. He’s been included in many group shows all over California, has a long list of exhibits, and a diverse collector base.
His first teacher was Nevin Kempthorne, who was inspirational and instructive, while sharing an excitement about art. Rolf’s artistic eye has been influenced by Donald Teague, Wayne Thiebaud, Richard Diebenkom, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth and a few others.
